Girl Scouts from St. Catherine School were joined by Father Harold Cullen, pastor of the St. Catherine and St. Margaret Parish Family, to celebrate Girl Scout Sunday on March 6, 2016.
Local Girl Scouts celebrated Girl Scout Sunday at St. Margaret Church, celebrating the founding of the organization and its ties to their faith.
On Sunday, March 6, 2016, 50 Girl Scouts in kindergarten through sixth grade recited the Girl Scout Promise. Parishioners who had been members of the Girl Scouts during their youth were also invited to stand and recite the promise.
" Women of all ages stand and proudly join in. This simple act demonstrates the significance of Girl Scouts to these young girls. They see that they apart of something special - a sisterhood that lasts a lifetime." said Mrs. Dwyer who organized the Girl Scout Sunday for the parish.
During Mass, 25 Girl Scouts were recognized for achieving the My Promise, My Faith Award, which strengthens the connection between faith and the Girl Scouts. To qualify for the award girls had to follow specific criteria, including a line of the Girl Scout Law in with an aspect of their faith, discussing their chosen line with a woman of faith in the community, finding three inspirational quotes from the women that align with the Girl Scout Law and, create a project to remind them of what they learned.
