4H seeking host families for Japanese exchange students

New Jersey 4-H is looking for families who are interested in expanding their horizons by hosting an international exchange student this summer!

Each summer, New Jersey 4-H sponsors Japanese youth ages 12-16, who come to the Garden State for a month. The eager Japanese youth want to experience American culture, make new friends, and improve their English by staying with host families. This year, the students will be visiting from July 22-August 17.

One Japanese student will be matched per family based on the host sibling's gender, age, and interests.

The expectations for families hosting young people include:

  • Having youth the same gender and same age (+/- two years) and as the Japanese delegate
  • Being able to provide a separate bed and three meals a day
  • Having enthusiasm for learning about other cultures

There is no need to plan special activities for the delegate and hosting families do not need to be involved in 4-H to host. American host siblings have the opportunity to travel to Japan next summer.
