Five local business leaders will take center stage in the Girls Scouts of the Jersey Shore’s fourth “Dancing with Our Monmouth and Ocean County Stars” event on Thursday, Nov. 15, 6-10 p.m., at Eagle Oaks Country Club in Farmingdale.
The fund-raising event gives local residents an opportunity to support Girl Scout programs by voting for their favorite dancers in the November dance competition, complete with a panel of judges, live music by Kindred Spirit and presentation of awards.
“Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore looks forward to our fourth dance competition,” said Chief Executive Officer Eileen M. Higgins. “It’s a great way to bring our community together for a night of fun and friendly competition to generate support that enables girls in Monmouth and Ocean counties to participate in Girl Scout programs that help develop women of courage, confidence and character, who will make the world a better place.”
This year’s featured “star” dancers are: Robert Allison, partner at Hollman, Frenia, Allison, P.C., a local CPA firm; Thomas A. Arnone, Monmouth County Freeholder director; Tom Devoy, co-host of the Thunder 106 morning show, “Pork Roll and Eggs”; Susu Garcia, signature program specialist at Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore; and, Gail Grob, an alumna of Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, and unit secretary in Pre Admission Testing at Ocean Medical Center.
Higgins said the “stars” spend weeks practicing their dance moves with professional dancers they are paired with from: Fred Astaire Dance Studios, Manasquan: Arthur Murray Dance Centers, Red Bank; Richard Givney, Middletown Arts Center; and, Shore DanceSport, Brick. They will be performing dances such as Tango, Cha Cha, Waltz and Salsa.
Two awards will be presented at the competition – the People’s Choice Award, based on the total number of votes cast online and the Grand Champion Award, based on a combination of the judges’ scores and public votes case the night of the event.
Judges for the event are: Tom Grosse, Toms River Police Department, and Grand Champion of last year’s event; Jeremy Grunin, Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation; Tom Hayes, New Jersey Natural Gas; and Carol Stillwell, Stillwell-Hansen Inc. The emcee will be Nina Siciliano, co-host of the Pork Roll and Eggs show on Thunder 106 radio.
Last year’s dance competition raised more than $110,000 to benefit Girl Scout programs. Tickets for the Nov.15 event are $125 and include dinner, cocktails, live music and the dance competition. Online voting is open to all. Click to visit the Dancing With Our Stars webpage.
