Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore delivered 10,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies today to Fulfill, a food bank that supports families and individuals in Monmouth and Ocean counties.

The cookies were donated to the Girl Scouts Cookie Relief Fund by OceanFirst Bank. The fund was created soon after the COVID-19 pandemic hit to invite local businesses and residents to donate Girl Scout cookies to cheer front-line workers, first responders and those in need of comfort during the health crisis.

With today’s delivery, Girl Scouts have shared more than 80,000 boxes of cookies with essential workers, first responders and nonprofits like Fulfill throughout central New Jersey.

The Girl Scout Cookie treats will be added to Crisis Relief Boxes prepared by Fulfill and distributed to area families.

At the delivery today, OceanFirst invited businesses to join their “Box of Love Challenge” and to pass the challenge on to five other businesses or colleagues to bring comfort to the community.

Several businesses have accepted the Boxes of Love challenge including: Encon in Ocean Township; Woodhaven Lumber & Millwork, Lakewood; Cg, Toms River; New Jersey Natural Gas, Wall; Stillwell-Hansen in Edison; and Dr. Stephen Chagares of Shrewsbury. Members of Deal Golf and Country Club also joined the cause to share the love.

Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore CEO Eileen Higgins thanked OceanFirst for the generous donation and leading the charge for additional support from the business community.

“Donations to the Cookie Relief Fund help bring smiles and comfort to dedicated essential workers, volunteers and community members,” Higgins said. “The support also enables Girl Scouts to participate in leadership programs.”

Girl Scout troops were in the midst of their annual cookie program when the health crisis hit, halting community cookie booths and in-person sales, Higgins said. The Cookie Relief Fund makes it possible for Girl Scouts to give back to the community during a challenging time and at the same time draw down their inventory of cookies.
