How to start a Girl Scout troop in your area
A Girl Scout troop, or a group of Girl Scouts and volunteers that meet regularly, is one of many ways to participate in Girl Scouting. Troops set their own schedule for meetings, decide what activities they want to enjoy, and find ways to improve their community.
Learn how to start your own local troop and help Girl Scouts make a difference in their community.
Steps to Successfully Starting a Troop:
- Register as an adult member. ($25/year membership dues)
- Complete a criminal background check (no cost).
- Attend New Leader Orientation online or in-person with local Regional Engagement Manager. (You will then request a troop number.)
- Complete Successful Leader Learning Series on gsLearn (within 30 days of appointment).
- Recruit girls to join and other adults to assist you! (Consider a Co-op Troop where all registered adults share leadership).
- Contact info@gsfun.org for recruitment assistance if you need flyers or social media images, or you would like help with a sign-up night.
- Hold a parents' meeting.
- Locate a meeting place and schedule your meetings.
- Collect troop dues and open a troop bank account.
- Have fun!
