Creating a More Inclusive Environment
At Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, we are committed to prioritizing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Racial Justice (DEIRJ) across all aspects of council. Making sure that participants and families feel included, supported, and empowered will only strengthen the membership of Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore and create a better future with youth full of courage, confidence, and character.
We commit to wholeheartedly welcoming all adults and girls to our movement. GSJS is committed to racial and cultural justice, and we promise to actively advocate for and build inclusion, diversity, pluralism and equity in all we do.
In comparing the self-reported GSJS membership data with the Counties’ data, we recognize that immediate measures must be taken to ensure we are reaching all of Monmouth and Ocean Counties’ interested Girl Scouts. As GSJS examines where we are versus where we want to be, we will study culture, enhance communication, enrich training, provide inclusive programming, and truly serve and support all girls
- To diversify profiles of members, staff and Board of Directors, expanding their learning and development on topics of racial justice, equity, and inclusion.
- To examine program delivery for cultural competence and opportunities to be more inclusive.
- To ensure equity by assessing all facilities to make them more accessible to all members.
- Enhance training and support for troop leaders and all camp staff in serving girls with neurodivergences.
- To ensure equity by assessing all operational policies and practices of the Cookie Program so all girls have equal opportunity to participate.
