Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore is pleased to announce we will be offering adult training in Youth Mental Health First Aid.  This is a blended course - with pre-work to be completed prior to the in-person session.

Upon completion - you'll be able to...

  • Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD)
  • Recognize common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges
  • Understand how to interact with a young person in crisis
  • Know how to connect a young person with help
  • Better understand trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying

We will learn the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan

            A          Assess for risk of suicide or harm

            L          Listen nonjudgmentally

            G          Give reassurance and information

            E          Encourage appropriate professional help

            E          Encourage self-help and other support strategies

 

This training will include recognizing signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, how to interact with a youth in crisis and how to connect to a youth with appropriate help.
