Apply to become a GSJS Media Girl

Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore current Girl Scout members who exemplify courage, confidence, and character are invited to join our Media Girls! Open to Girl Scout Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors, these leaders will have opportunities to conduct interviews, be interviewed, attend photoshoots and speaking engagements. Media Girls will receive training, as required, to be able to report on council and community events and share our stories with the Girl Scout community and the world. 

Media Girls are called upon to:

lightbulb01_32 Participate in focus groups and brainstorming sessions.

camera_32 Create content, such as write articles and shoot photos/videos.

Opportunities:

  • Develop public speaking while being photographed and filmed
  • Interview with media on TV, radio and print publications. Attend press events and speak at local events
  • Take part in commercials, videos and print features
  • Participate in and volunteer at Girl Scout events throughout the year

Goals:

  • Help us tell the Girl Scout story!
  • Highlight Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore peer role models and inspire other girls
  • Develop lifelong skills while representing Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore
  • Elevate Girl Scouts as real-life examples of the impact our organization makes on girls and their communities

Requirements:

  • Must be a registered Girl Scout for the upcoming membership year (this program will span across two Girl Scout membership years, e.g., from January 2022 to January 2023).
  • Have permission from a parent/guardian to participate and a signed media release.
  • Attend team meetings.
  • Attend media training.
  • Must be flexible to be called upon for major Girl Scout events. 
  • Submit at least two pieces of coverage throughout the year.
    • Your coverage should include two major Girl Scout events, one non-Girl Scout topic that is relevant to Girl Scouts, and one personal interest piece.
    • Your pieces can be written, video, or photography—think about a video or photos to accompany a written news article, Instagram post or reel.

Notes:

  • Media Girls are encouraged to have a parent or responsible adult who is a Girl Scout member available to participate with them and commit to helping to:
    • Share your media initiatives on social media.
    • Bring you to Girl Scout or press events as needed. 
  • An application, short questionnaire and media release signed by parent must be completed to be reviewed by a selection committee
  • Council will try to include each member in at least one opportunity per year. Not everyone will be selected to participate in every media opportunity
